Through the support of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Greater New Haven Community Service Project, Columbus House adopted a comprehensive list of guidelines to help reduce waste, conserve energy, roll out a recycling program and make our kitchen operations more environmentally friendly. Columbus House continues to incorporate energy efficient appliances and lighting where feasible to reduce our costs and has installed solar panels on our shelter building and Annex on the Boulevard and on our 17 unit supportive housing apartment complex called Val Macri.
Funds raised through Rock to Rock will be used exclusively for the continued Greening of Columbus House.
Since 1982, Columbus House has been providing shelter for homeless men and women.Today, we provide not only shelter but also housing assistance and services designed to help people who are homeless move toward independence through innovative programs that meet their changing needs.
Programs include: street outreach & engagement; shelter services; rapid re-housing; permanent supportive housing; employment services and population-specific programs for families with children, seniors, Veterans, and those living with HIV/AIDS, as well as people with behavioral health disorders and histories of incarceration.
