Pioneering real, grassroots responses to climate change | Planting thousands of street trees | Sustaining and growing more than 50 urban greenspaces and more than 50 school and community gardens | Creating more than 1,000 green jobs for New Haven young people | Stewarding dozens of city & state parks | Growing tens of thousands of pounds of healthy, local produce | Creating a city-wide culture of cycling, thanks to bike shares, bike recycling, bike lanes, and cycling celebrations |  Getting tens of thousands of children and adults out into the natural world | Restoring habitat in parks and schoolyards | Growing vibrant farmer's markets and local farms | Turning trash to treasure | Improving air and water quality, and fighting environmental injustice | Providing healthy food to our neighbors who need it most

This year, we mark the 50th Earth Day ... 

Who could have imagined the environmental progress we've made since the first Earth Day in 1970? 
Federal protections for clean air, clean water, and endangered species.
A vibrant community of grassroots and national environmental groups. 
The solutions we need: renewal carbon-free power, the local food movement, a green new deal. 
A growing recognition that the environmental movement needs to become more inclusive and justice-focused, and foreground the experiences and voices of the people of color, low income communities, and urban and rural communities most impacted by environmental  

Who could have imagined the environmental challenges and choices we face today? 
A climate emergency.
Concerted efforts to dismantle environmental protections.

What will New Haven and our planet look like in another 50 years?
We get to decide, with our actions and voices, what come next. Will you step up to raise support for the organizations working for a greener, healthier, more welcoming and just community, now and into the future? It's going to take all of us.
