Please join the URI team for the Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride! All are welcome to join our merry bunch and URI would be grateful for your help raising support for our local environment. When you register, you'll be able to choose our team, set up a fundraising page, and help us reach our team goal.
Funds raised through Rock to Rock will help sustain our Community Greenspace program in 2013, supporting 50 volunteer neighborhood groups working to revitalize their community's landscape with trees, shrubs, perennials, paths, benches, archways and the removal of invasive plants, all the while building community social bonds.
The mission of New Haven Urban Resources Initiative (URI) is to foster community-based land stewardship, promote environmental education, and advance the practice of urban forestry.
- GreenSkills is URI’s local green jobs program that employs high school students and ex-offenders through the planting of trees for hundreds of New Haven residents each year. GreenSkills connects people to their communities, their environment, and each other.
- Through our Community Greenspace program, URI works with more than 1,000 New Haven residents each summer to replant, restore, and reclaim the urban environment. We seek out those areas traditionally seen as problems—abandoned schoolyards, vacant lots, derelict buildings, and historically neglected areas in the city—and turn their rehabilitation into opportunities for the social and physical renewal of our community and environment.
